The Wildest Heart

The Wildest Heart
Jacinta Carey
Setting: Wyoming, 1865

Rebecca Whitaker is struggling to keep her family ranch from foreclosure by trading with the Shoshone Indians, working in a saloon, and raising horses. Enter the mysterious Walker Pritchard, claiming he wishes to stay with Reb to leave the memories of the war behind and learn about the ways of the west.

Their intense attraction starts to turn to love, a new and dazzling experience for them both. But can Reb trust Walker? What are his real motives for coming to the Bar T, and how did he know there would be gold in those hills?

Falsely accused of murder, Walker must make a terrible choice between telling the truth to clear his name, but putting Reb’s family at even greater risk than they face already, or trying to defend himself without revealing all that happened at the fateful battle of Richmond.

As their enemies close in, Reb must fight to discover the truth in time to save Walker as well as her ranch from the unscrupulous men who will destroy anyone or anything in the way of their worldly ambitions.

Walker heaved up the two pails onto his shoulders using a tree branch as a makeshift yoke, and went stumping into the kitchen.

He put the pails down, and looked up to see a naked woman with the loveliest figure he had ever set eyes on rising from the foam. His mouth went dry. The tree branch fell with a clatter.

Reb’s aqua eyes met Walker’s black ones briefly, before she ducked back down into the suds with a small squeak.

“Walker, really, you should have shouted or something before you came stomping in here like that,” Reb grumbled, as she turned completely crimson.

“I ,uh, I am sorry, Rebel, uh, but,” Walker stammered, as she avoided his gaze and sank down even deeper into the suds until he could barely see her.

“But, Rebel, you could have just told me you were a woman, instead of playing such a silly game,” he began to scold.

“What game?”

“I thought you were a boy!”

Though how he could ever have made that error, he thought as he recalled the sight of her curves, he had no idea…

Voyage of the Heart

Voyage of the Heart
Book Three of The Starbuck Saga
Jacinta Carey

Jerusha Swain almost loses everything when her father is killed in a shipboard accident. She and her family have been raised at sea. To be forced to leave the whaler Naiad by its new captain Roland Chase is to be sent from the only home she has ever known, and forced to try to make a living on land.

Jerusha loves the sea, and knows she has all the skills the D and S Starbuck Whaling Fleet needs aboard a ship. But she possesses something even better: an uncharted whaling ground as rich as a goldmine. She promises to show Roland her secret place, if only he will let her and her siblings remain aboard ship.

The secret whaling ground is vastly tempting for the handsome and ambitious new captain, but even more alluring is the feisty Jerusha. Roland has a business proposal of his own: marry him, and become his mate in every sense of the word!

Roland was just heading back up on deck with his foul weather gear when he saw his wife come out of her cabin.

“Where are you going?”

“They’re calling all hands.”

“Don’t be silly. Stay with your brother and sister. Everything is fine. There’s no sense in you getting soaked.”

“I don’t mind. You have to do it,” she pointed out.

“I’m the captain. It’s my job.”

The bow of the ship pitched forward, and he caught Jerusha around the waist. In the near darkness he could see her eyes shining up at him, and as the ship rolled to port, he felt himself press up against her intimately as her back slammed against the wall.

“Are you all right?” he asked breathlessly, her sudden nearness practically choking him.

“Fine.”

With only a moment’s hesitation, he lowered his mouth to hers, and began to kiss her with all the pent-up longings he had tried so hard to subdue.

He wedged his hands on either side of her under her arms to keep her from falling, hardly daring to touch her exquisitely rounded body.

Jerusha was too stunned to do anything other than let him kiss her. The pressure made her go weak at the knees and she trembled and clung to the wall, her palms flat against the wood panelling.

This was like nothing she had ever imagined, and the unspoken question in his kiss was not one she was sure she had an answer for. It was all just too great for her to comprehend, or even contemplate when she knew so little of the world of men and married life.

Yet the kiss promised a bounty of delights, if only she dared to let go of her mind, and let her body follow her heart’s desire…

Almira Hussey is a desperate young woman. Her father’s ship has been reported lost at sea, her mother is seriously ill, she has two younger sisters to take care of, and her brother had just shipped out on a whaler she soon discovers is a hell ship.

When her mother dies, Almira grows determined to secure a better life for them all. A three-year stint at sea on a whaler will give her the money she needs to apprentice her sisters to a decent trade and support herself. With any luck, she might even be able to rescue her brother and find news of her father’s fate.

Almira disguises herself as a man and throws herself upon the mercy of famous whaler captain Jared Starbuck, said to have the Devil’s own luck turning a profit. He agrees to sign on the puny lad as a cabin boy, and pay the apprenticeship articles for her sisters as an advance on her wages.

It seems a dream come true for Almira, especially when she begins to fall in love with her handsome captain.

Jared soon begins to wonder if there is more to ‘Al’ than meets the eye. Uncovering her disguise at last, there is no resisting the magnetic attraction between them.

Jared doesn’t believe the whaling life is the right one for the woman he loves, but a run-in with the notorious pirate Xavier Delgado makes him glad Almira is on board.

Almira must outwit Delgado to save the crew and the man she has come to love above all else from certain death. And together Jared and Almira must risk all to navigate the most perilous waters of the Atlantic and Pacific if she is ever to save her family.

Journey of the Heart

Journey of the Heart
Volume One of The Starbuck Saga
Jacinta Carey

Samantha Barnes, daughter of a wealthy ship-builder from Nantucket, discovers that her father has engaged her to a business rival’s son to further his own interests. Samantha flees to her uncle’s house in a desperate attempt to keep her freedom and save the Barnes Shipyard from bankruptcy.

At her uncle’s she meet dashing whaling captain Dare Starbuck, a wealthy man with excellent family connections and the Devil’s own luck on the high seas. The friendship which springs up between them soon grows to overwhelming attraction.

Samantha risks all by disguising herself as a boy and shipping out as one of Dare’s crew to help restore her family’s fortunes. Only when she sails with Dare can she decide if he is just interested in her because of her social connections, or whether she can trust her life and love to him, her body and soul….

Samantha was just reaching for the towel when the door opened. She gasped, for the standing in the doorway was Dare, a look of complete shock on his face.

He stared at her–and stared. His mouth open, he could barely get a word out. “W-w-what the- Who-”

Finally, he clamped his lips shut, turned on his heel, and marched out, leaving her dripping in the tub, and feeling as though she were about to faint.

Drat it all. She had fully intended to tell him the truth.

To have him find out her real identity in such an abrupt and embarrassing manner was not something she had ever counted on in her dreams of a romantic reunion in which they pledged their undying love for each other.
